.Shereally did go looking for you, Shane. My thoughts scattered and all Icould think of was seeing her faceagain.I jumped out of my seat, spillingone of the beers on the table andlaughed. As long as I don t have to witness any of his beeping your beepwhile we wait. Chapter 27When we got back to Lea sapartment, Grace was standing in thekitchen with the refrigerator wide open, empty water bottles littering the floorand a dozen eggs smashed at her feet. She looked pale green and sick; shecouldn t even focus her eyes on us. Grace, are you okay? Leaasked concerned. Her dilated eyes squinteddesperately towards me, I m reallythirsty, she mumbled. Her kneeslooked about to buckle under her and Irushed over to her and placed the backof my hand against her forehead. She fell limply into my arms; her skin was onfire. Grace, you re burning up. Ilooked at Lea, Get some aspirin andjuice.I lifted her gently into my arms, and I swear it was like touching fire.Carrying her through the hallway, shetried to wrap her arms around my neck, but she seemed too weak to lift them.AsI opened the door to her room, I gaspedand my entire body stiffened withannoyed anger.Even though the walls ofher room had been re-sheet rocked andpainted since the fire, she had nofurniture, except a large mattress lyingacross her bare floor. Her laptop andguitar were leaning against the far wall. God, Grace, you don t have a bed? I asked, lowering her softly ontothe mattress and brushed a stray hairfrom off my face.Lea was next to me handing me asmall glass of juice and a handful ofaspirin. Grace, baby. Please open youreyes and take these aspirin. Iwhispered. She looked up at me throughnarrow lids and tried to smile. God, heis so beautiful, he looks like an angel, she murmured. Then she swallowed thepills and closed her eyes.A cold sweatbroke out all over my body and a sharppainful chill surged through my spine.Ilooked at Lea for help, but she justoffered me a tight smile and walked towards the door. Lea, wait.We can t leave herin these clothes, she s soaking wet fromsweating.Find something that she canwear to bed.I ll leave, so you canchange her, I whispered.I stood in the hallway while Leachanged her and when she told me tocome back in, I was shocked by whatLea dressed her in.A small sexy tanktop and a pair of lacy boy shorts was allshe wore.Leave it to Lea.I knelt nextto her, pulled the covers up to her chinand kissed her scorching forehead. Get, some sleep, babe, I whispered.I m sleeping on the couch until shefeels better, and if that fever doesn tbreak tonight, I m taking her to the hospital. She opened her eyes halfway andlifted a hand to my face.I leaned intoher palm, worshipping the softness ofher skin. Don t go, Shane.Stay withme.Forever Grace.I smiled down at her, Okay.Getting up quickly, I pulled off my shirtand jeans, and threw them into herhamper. With only my boxers on, I slidunder the covers next to her andwrapped my arms around her waist, pulling her tight against me. Are youokay, does anything hurt? I asked, nuzzling my face into her neck. Her words were slurred and slow but I had no problem figuring outwhat she said, Just stay with me,Shane. The devil says he loves me, andhe s coming to get me.Crap, I hope Ididn t say that out loud. Shut up and go to sleep, Grace,I whispered softly before I placed mylips on the nape of her warm neck, justbelow her ear, and kissed her.She slept restlessly for a fewhours, and at some point in the earlyhours of the morning, she woke upscreaming and sweating. Shh, Imurmured, brushing my hands over hercheek. You re safe, Grace; I won t letanyone ever hurt you again. My lipspressed a soft kiss over hers. She slept straight through the next day without moving, just a fewwhimpers here and there.I only left herroom to run to the bathroom or grab asandwich from Lea.The rest of the time,I spent holding Grace or using hercomputer to buy her some bedroomfurniture.I constantly kept her iTuneson, letting her playlists fill her roomwith soft calming background music. On the second day of us tangledin her sheets together, with her legswrapped tightly around my thighs, hereyes fluttered open, lips smiling. As asoft glow filtered through her curtains, Isang along to the song Hallelujah byRufus Wainwright with warm whispersinto her ear.My hand drew smallcircles along the exposed skin of her lower back, traveling over the lacymaterial of her shorts until my achingfingertips met with the bare skin of theback of her legs.As I touched her, she took herbottom lip between her teeth, bit downtightly and moaned softly in contentment.I shifted my body, and as myfingers danced delicately down her legsto the back of her knees, I pressed mythighs harder between her legs, feelingher warmth seep through my skin.Herbody trembled and her breath caught.I hovered my face over hers andour eyes locked in the soft low lightfrom the window that teasingly fell overour bodies.I searched those eyes foranswers, for emotions and an exquisite crimson blush slowly spread across hercheeks, and quickly reached over theflesh of her neck and across her chest.Slowly, as our eyes were fixedon each other s, our bodies beganrocking against each other. Her eyesfluttered closed and she groaned, pressing herself harder against me, hersoft hands skid trails of fire across mybare chest. My body throbbed; achedwith anticipation of being inside her, anypart of me; my tongue, my fingers, all ofme. God, Grace, I murmured intoher open lips, hovering over thembreathing her in, I never neededsomeone the way I need you. Then ourlips touched softly, gently savoring, nipping and kissing each other with agrowing hunger [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
